Gate chain cut

Gate chain cut

Hey everyone, Bill from Lot 119. Came up to the property today and found the chain to our gate had been cut in such a way to make it look like it was still locked but it was secured behind with a snap link. NOT COOL!! If anyone knows who did this I would love to know. My son, he is an active duty Marine who is taking leave to hunt with me, and I will be on the property for buck season this year. So if who ever did it thinks they can hunt there this year, you will have company. Can’t believe people are this petty, I guess their mama didn’t tell them to not touch other people’s stuff without permission.

    Bill,

I’m sorry to hear about this and we’ll keep an eye out for activity near your property.

If someone does show up to join your company, please let me know and provide me with their information.

Bill, I’m sorry to learn of this. I have no information for you on who might have done this. That said, I would definitely invest in a trail cam that has cellular capability and can send you motion triggered pictures to your phone. SPYPOINT makes a very reliable one that we use on our property.

This happened to us about 5-6 years ago and at first it irritated me, then as I looked closer there was a Potomac Edison lock placed in the chain along with ours. I realized they didn’t have a way to go up and read the meter which is their right. I thought the way they handled that was pretty cool. Way better then just sending some arbitrary estimate due to lack of access. It may be Edison but they used the snap link because they didn’t have any locks at the time.
    Likely not someone being disrespectful.

That happened to us several months ago (lot 232), and it was Edison power company people. We were not very happy about that, because Edison had its own lock on our chain and whoever was reading the meter probably lost the key and decided to just cut the chain and put a link that can be opened by anyone.

    • John F. says:

Yes, the power company has to get in to read the meter if the house is not right by the road, so they have the right to cut the chain and install their own lock, same happened to us. There is no power meter on this property tho so that is not the issue here.

It could still have been Edison that just went to the incorrect lot. They are not all marked very well. They should have left an apology note.
Edison normally installs one of theirs along with but separately from the property owners lock.
