Need recommendations for Starlink installation

I would love to do it myself but with my knees, I can’t climb on the roof to install it. Please let me know if you have used a contractor to install your Starlink system.

I don’t have an answer but I do have a question. When did you submit your down payment for starlink in June. I am still waiting on mine and am curious as to how far out it might still be.

    • Rich Willard says:

      Kim,

I put the down payment in on 9 Mar 22. I will have restricted service during peak hours but then it will be wide open.

Here is what I was sent

Your service area remains at capacity which means we are unable to convert you to Residential service at this time. Our best estimate for delivery of Residential service in your area is now mid-2023.

Adding users before adding additional network capacity would result in delivery of a lesser service. However, we understand that some customers may have urgent connectivity needs with no other alternatives.

For those with urgent connectivity needs, we are offering a Best Effort service option.

      What is Best Effort?
Best Effort enables typical internet activity with the understanding that Best Effort users will be deprioritized behind Residential users.

The monthly service charge is the same but unlike Residential, Best Effort users will have the option to pause service on their account page.

What will the internet experience be like with Best Effort?
During times of peak network congestion, Best Effort users will experience notably slower speeds than Residential users. Best Effort users will be able to engage in typical internet activity like email, online shopping, or streaming an SD movie, but they won’t be able to engage in activities like online gaming, video calls or streaming 4K and HD movies.

Outside times of peak network congestion, Best Effort users can expect to engage in all of the above activities and more, but speeds will be slower than Residential users.

If I choose Best Effort now, do I lose my place in line for Residential service?
No, if you choose Best Effort you will not lose your spot in line. When capacity increases in your area, your service will be upgraded automatically at no additional cost.

You can opt-in to Best Effort from your account page at any time or by clicking the button below.

Best Effort is intended for pre-order customers with urgent connectivity needs. If you can wait for Residential, we strongly encourage you to do so.

In just 18 months, our teams have already enabled over 600,000 users across 40 markets. By mid-2023, our rapid launch rate and higher performing satellites, coupled with the continuous deployment of software features to optimize our network, will enable a high quality connection for millions more across the globe.

As always, you cancel your pre-order at any time on your account page for a full refund of your deposit. We appreciate your continued patience and we look forward to getting you online!

I put a deposit down on Dec 3, 2021, and still don’t have service. I got the same notice as Rich, but I don’t need service now so I can wait.

You may read the reviews for the router on Amazon.

    This is my alternative suggestion.
I have no issue to have full bar 5G signal through Google Fi on my property.
-Simple unlimited plan for more than 4 lines is $20.00 each line. 5G with 35 giga bites, and will be 2G after. It has 5 giga bites hot spot. $40.00 per line has 5G 50 giga bites and 2G after, and unlimited hot spot. It means you can use your phone as a hot spot device.
Why do you need Starlink even though there is a way to use 5G network already with much less money and work?

    • Tom Craigo says:

Daysunho, that’s an interesting suggestion. Years ago before all the improvements in networks I tried to use hotspots, but it wasn’t feasible. Now, I get pretty good LTE access on my phone, but it’s not that way over the whole community.

But, to your question, why spend more? Because one might need full time access for security cameras and monitoring systems, or maybe we want access to the property internet while away, for things like thermostat control or other home automation.

My wife and I will be using a VPN between our homes (and currently do that, even though with slower speed on the AW slow DSL) so will need full time access.

      Daysunho,

We have horrible cell reception on Winterberry and Hardy Net only provide 5M. Starlink is the best solution I could find. I just need to find someone to help install it.

I think you can use a LTE(4G) or 5G router.
Just get a unoocked LTE or 5G router, activate a sim card with your old phone, and put the sim card in the router’s sim card slot.
It’s the system I’m using on another property.
I think it will support all your need.
As we all know Amazon is a way to get a router.
