Road Conditions

Has anyone driven on the Ashton Woods roads today? I’m just wondering whether it’s too dangerous to head into town.

Thanks,

Paul

    Paul,

I drove to Lancaster and back yesterday and went to Trough Rd today.

The roads are still icy but 4×4 at 5 to 10 mpg worked well with my Dodge Ram.

    Merry Christmas!

    Jason

Upper South Branch Mtn Road and Nathaniel Mtn Road are very slick and chains are recommended or better yet stay off the upper Mtn roads. If the contractors could stay off the upper roads during inclement weather we would all be able to get out in case of emergency. We understand their need to work but nothing is worth getting injured or worse. Please be safe while traversing our community roads.

Thank you for the posting and prior responses. I drove on Ashton Woods Drive from the Main Gate to Through View Road today (Dec. 25) at 3:00 pm.

Ashton Woods Drive was very icy on several segments. I was glad I had my 2007 Toyota Sequoia on 4×4 Low and second gear going downhill on the U-shaped turn just before Scarlett Oak Drive. Otherwise I would have ended up on a ditch.

My wife was driving a different 4×4 about 45 minutes behind me. She entered Ashton Woods through the West Gate and did not have any issues.

But definitely it’s 4×4 conditions, driving slow without using the brakes going downhill, or your vehicle will likely slide and end up in a ditch.

Monday afternoon update: a pick-up truck slid on the first icy up-hill on Ashton Woods Drive, right after the power lines one mile after entering AW through the West Gate, and temporarily closed the road until the truck was towed. Be careful. It’s ice.

We came up today (Monday) through Trough View gate. The road up to South Branch Mountain was not too bad. The further we went on Trough View, the more ice. Fortunately the roads were semi-cleared before all major downhill turns. We had 4WD and AWD vehicles and drive slow. Did not need chains. Now our driveway…that was a bit trickier. The 4WD made it up fine, but we had to plow a little to get the AWD up the last stretch.
